Monkey Pod is found in throughout Central and South America as well as the South Pacific. Color tends to be a golden to dark brown, sometimes with darker streaks throughout, with thin yellow/white sapwood along the edges. Monkey Pod is sometimes seen with highly figured, curly or wild grain patterns and has a medium to coarse texture. It is lightweight and fairly strong and finishes to a beautiful hue.
Parota is harvested from Central and South America, as well as Mexico. It has a slightly interlocked grain, a very coarse texture and has a moderate natural luster. Parota is streaked with honey, reddish and dark brown colors alongside clearly distinct, creamy sapwood. Due to it’s large trunk size, very large slabs of natural-edged are common and it is generally much lighter than other imported hardwoods.
Walnut is one of the most enjoyed American hardwoods for its fine-yet-open grain, unique patterns, and bold dark color. It’s color can range from a lighter pale brown to a dark chocolate brown with darker brown streaks. Color can sometimes have a grey, purple, or reddish cast. Walnut is easy to cut, shape and sand, and the wood takes on an amazing look with a clear finish.

Good markets for wood & wood products will help preserve the tropical rain forests. A thriving international market provides an economic reason to carefully manage them.
Buying these products provides the incentive to manage the forests responsibly, and prevents clear cutting to convert to cattle land. The land with trees MUST be more valuable than the land without them.
Purchasing tropical wood products from responsible suppliers contributes to saving the rain forests.
