Tamarind has a pale yellow sapwood paired with a heartwood that ranges in hue from deep reddish brown to purple. Spalting and other discoloration are common in the sapwood and the grain is wavy and interlocked with a medium uniform texture. Tamarind is relatively dense and polishes to a beautiful luster.
